The final stage of the Absa Cape Epic will once again finish on the pristine polo fields of South Africa’s premium lifestyle estate – Val de Vie. In 2017, the estate was selected as the fourth-ever Grand Finale host for the race, and proved with great success that it promises to become an iconic venue for this coveted event – comparable to the Champs-Élysées finish of the Tour de France.

Indicative of the relationship between Val de Vie and the Absa Cape Epic, is the upgrading of the estate from venue partner to official sponsor of the event. Kevin Vermaak, Absa Cape Epic founder, commented: “Val de Vie is a fantastic Grand Finale venue: it is a beautiful estate, located in an awesome setting in the middle of mountain bike territory. We really hope to extend our association with the estate beyond the five-year contract we have now agreed to.”

Following eight gruelling days of endurance – spanning over 690 km – facing elements of heat, dust, sunburn and exhaustion – the lush green polo fields and incredible scenery of the estate is a refuge for riders taking part in what is known as the Untamed African MTB race. Val de Vie’s proud history of winemaking will be integrated by providing sparkling wine on the podium at the Grand Finale, celebrating victory in the Valley of Life.

Ryk Neethling, Marketing Director and Shareholder of Val de Vie added: “As South Africa’s top lifestyle estate, Val de Vie’s offering is a perfect association with the Absa Cape Epic – a world leader in promoting a healthy and active way of life. We look forward to elevating our long-term partnership and establishing Val de Vie as the iconic landmark Grand Finale venue of the world’s leading mountain bike stage race – in the heart of the scenic Cape Winelands.”

As host of the 2018 Absa Cape Epic Grand Finale, the estate offers spectators the opportunity to enjoy a taste of the Val de Vie lifestyle whilst eagerly awaiting the first riders to cross the finish line.

Val de Vie Estate is utopia for outdoor and sport enthusiasts, with a 42-km mountain biking route trailing through the estate. The first stage of the route has been completed and includes a variety of surfaces, suitable for beginner and advanced riders. The course outlay was planned around the input of experienced riders and trail runners and features bridges, drop offs and obstacles for the adventurous at heart. Some of the best and most striking mountain bike trails in South Africa are within a short ride from Val de Vie.

The Absa Cape Epic, the world’s leading mountain bike stage race, takes place in the Western Cape from 18 – 25 March 2018.

Val de Vie is located off the R301 Jan van Riebeeck drive in Paarl, just 35 minutes from Cape Town and Cape Town International Airport. The surrounding areas of the estate, such as Franschhoek and Stellenbosch, not only offers world-class restaurants and a plethora of wine estates, but also outdoor activities and outstanding natural beauty.
