The Jack Nicklaus signature golf course at Pearl Valley on Thursday 19 October enticed A-listers and sports personalities to play their best game of golf in the Vodacom Shop Celebrity Golf Day, presented by Safari Outdoor.

Ryk Neethling, Maps Maponyane, Ernst Joubert, Nick Mallett, Marnus Broodryk, Andries Strauss, Herschelle Gibbs, Dan Nicholl, Rob Louw, Tiaan Strauss, Jacques Rudolph, Vernon Philander, Reuben Riffel, Heinz Winckler, Jacques Kallis, Chester Williams, Hal Luscumbe, Kurt Darren, Thomas Msengana, Pierre Greeff, Matthew Pearse, Warren Brosnihan, Albie Morkel, Alan Donald and Eric Ross were all in top form on a beautiful day out in the Winelands.

Upon arrival golfers received a customised box with essential golf items and branded Swagg Lifestyle shirts. A shotgun start at 12:30 for the four-ball teams was followed by on course activations and some good (and some not so good) golf over 18 rounds.

Participating golfers showed their generosity at the gala dinner hosted in the new Pearl Valley Conference Centre.

Over half a million rand was raised in aid of The Val de Vie Foundation, enabling 2nd Harvest Foodbank at the Paarl School of Skills to provide in excess of 106 000 meals to hungry children living in the Paarl-Franschhoek Valley.

Matthew Pearse as the Master of Ceremonies encouraged guests to take the highest bid on auction items that ranged from a dinner party hosted by gourmet chef Reuben Riffel to a weekend at the newly opened Mantis St. Helena.

“We know that a hungry cannot be taught and while poverty is a very complicated issue, feeding a child is not,” said Lorraine Hadfield, Advisor for the Val de Vie Foundation.

The Vodacom Shop Celebrity Golf Day presented by Safari Outdoor, in aid of The Val de Vie Foundation, provides support for a better life for all in the Paarl-Franschhoek Valley. Proceeds from the 2017 Celebrity Golf Day will go to 2nd Harvest Foodbank at the Paarl School of Skills who have made it their mission to eradicate hunger in the Valley. In light of the current drought, the worst in the recorded history of the Western Cape, extreme water restrictions could result in job losses in the near future, due to a potential drop in agricultural produce. Providing more than 2000 Valley children with nutritionally balanced meals during this time is critical. The juxtaposition that exists in the Franschhoek-Paarl Valley as the culinary capital of South Africa and the poverty and hunger within this same area, is an issue The Val de Vie Foundation is deeply engaged in to transform.

The winning four ball team of the day was Rob Louw, Thomas Msengana, Vernon Philander and Herschelle Gibbs. The team walked away an economy flight return ticket to Istanbul, sponsored by Turkish Airlines.

The day was made possible by our generous sponsors.
