PINK FOR POLO AND BLUE FOR ROLENE
It was a day of celebrations, riveting polo and fashion at the Pink Polo presented by Biomedical Emporium. A decade of polo with a purpose was commemorated on Saturday 9 November when ‘Polo with a Purpose’ returned to Val de Vie Estate, purposefully aligning the Sport of Kings with a worthy cause.
Dr Rolene Strauss, MC for the event, arrived via the scenic route in a helicopter while her co-host Nico Panagio revealed that the colour of the belt of her outfit, designed by Elrico Zarr, would disclose the gender of her baby due in February 2020. Congratulations Rolene on expecting another boy!
The main attraction of the day – the polo horses – kicked off the event with a pony parade of sixty pure bred polo ponies led by ‘Libby’, the horse that belonged to polo player Johan du Plooy who lost his battle to cancer earlier in 2019. Team Hisense beat team Biomedical Emporium 6 – 5 in a spectacular main polo match dominated by Best Playing Pony of the day – ‘Sugar’ – a magnificent horse owned by polo player George Morgan.
South Africa’s A-list celebrities who enjoyed an afternoon in the spectacular Cape Winelands included Tamaryn Green, Sipho Masebe, Jessica Nkosi, Mishka Patel, Heinrich Gabler, Leandi du Randt, Donna Lee Roberts, Tracey Lange, Frank Rautenbach, Mink van der Westhuizen, Katlego Maboe, Christi Panagio and Siba Mtongana, amongst others.
2019 marks the anniversary of 150 years of polo as a modern game and is a sport that demands a special bond between horse and rider, a unique fusion of athletic talents – stamina, strength, flexibility and skill. Today, polo is the only contact sport where men and women can compete on an equal level.
The measurement of time has long fascinated mankind, and timekeeping of chukkas is key to any polo match. Luxury swiss watch maker Jaeger-LeCoultre returned as Timekeeping Partner.
Luxury fashion label, ElricoZarr by Elrico Bellingan, adorned models in a bespoke fashion show as official Fashion Partner. Argentinian luxury polo attire brand, La Martina, ensured that Nico Panagio and the models were the epitome of style for a day at the polo as Polo Fashion Partner.
The dress code for this year’s event was ‘Authentic Polo’, encouraging guests to dress chic yet comfortable for an afternoon under the summer sun on the lush green grass of the Val de Vie Estate polo field.
PINK POLO LEGACY
This year, some of South Africa’s most influential celebrities joined to unite behind a message of hope and healing for the 10th consecutive year of ‘Polo with a Purpose.’ This inspiring video features the Pink Polo Legacy members – those who have been part of the movement since its inception in 2009.
Biomedical Emporium, pioneers in skin care and professional treatments, was the headline sponsor for the first time for this prestigious event. The event payed tribute to survivors of breast cancer and serves as a platform to raise awareness for a disease that is most prevalent in women, but also affects a high number of men.
Association Partner Hisense brought technological innovation to the event and offered guests a bird’s eye view of Val de Vie Estate, in partnership with Cape Winelands Properties, showcasing all the estate has to offer on the new Hisense 100” 4K Ultra HD Smart Laser TV in the “Immerse Yourself” booth in the Pavilion Ballroom area.
Vehicle Partner Volvo lead the main polo teams onto the field and had their luxury cars on display during divot stomping.
MC for the event Dr Rolene Strauss, Dr Judey from Biomedical Emporium and the KFM 94.5 breast cancer survivor winner will arrived at the event via the scenic route with Aviation Partner Cape Town Helicopters.
Independent banking and financial services group SASFIN was the official Finance Partner for the 2019 chapter of the event.
Themed ‘Authentic Polo’, the 2019 colour scheme was pink, deep blue and touches of gold that incorporated the regal association of the sport as a luxury pastime. Décor and artistic interpretations of polo was created by Décor Partner Something Different.
Travel Partner Soneva Resorts gave away the ultimate getaway, valued at R175 000 and included a 6-night stay at Soneva Fushi or Soneva Kiri for 2 people, which included dinner, bed and breakfast. Return domestic flights from the main airport to the resort are also included.
Bril Optometrists was the official Eyewear Partner and had a selection of designer eyewear available in their pop-up store at the event. Elizabeth Arden as Beauty Partner and Tosca as Hair Partner ensured that MC’s and esteemed guests look radiant and beautiful. Fragrance Partners Juicy Couture and John Varvatos kept female and male guests smelling fresh with their signature fragrances.
Supplier Partner Duco del Cosma had a pop-up store at the event for guests to first-hand experience the finest handcrafted Italian shoes for men and ladies, offering the perfect design for comfort and style.
HUGE Networks supplied complimentary WIFI on the day to ensure that memories of the event were instantly shared on social media under the hashtag #pinkpolosa.
Veuve Clicquot Rose engaged as Champagne Partner for the event. Pouring Partner, Hendricks Gin, created signature cocktails in conjunction with Beverage Partner Clark & Sons while Beer Partner Heineken offered refreshment. Valpre as Water Partner kept guests hydrated.
The Mantis Collection is on board as official Hospitality Partner and will be offering guests special rates in the Pearl Valley by Mantis hotel on Val de Vie Estate. Human Carrier Partner, Sports 24 Hours & Taxis will take care of transportation of guests.
Coco-Mat’s inventive “Pillow Positive”, specifically made to reduce discomfort during the process of breast cancer treatment, formed part of the Pink Polo giving again this year and will be donating to breast cancer patients in the Paarl-Franschhoek Valley. Coco-Mat was a Supplier Partner for the event.
Ludwig’s Roses had specially cultivated a unique rose for the event and will annually contribute proceeds from sales of the rose to CANSA in Paarl.
