VEUVE CLICQUOT MASTERS POLO 2019

It was a day of champagne, high fashion and riveting polo at the 9thVeuve Clicquot Masters Polo that took place at Val de Vie Estate on Saturday 2ndof March.

Veuve Clicquot has a shared heritage with polo and the House has supported polo events around the world – including the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic held in both New York and Los Angeles – since the 1990s, adding the Veuve Clicquot refined touch of art de vivre to these thrilling sporting experiences.

In South Africa, the perfect setting for this prestigious event, Val de Vie Estate was painted Clicquot yellow. Guests dressed Polo Chic according to the “Colourama” theme in shades ranging from sunburst yellow to blush pinks. Veuve Clicquot-inspired photo moments were at the order of the day while guests networked and socialised over delectable canapes and chilled champagne.

Colour has always been at the heart of Veuve Clicquot and is a source of the champagne’s creativity and inspiration. It was in 1816 that Madame Clicquot developed the first riddling table designed to guarantee a crystal-clear wine and thus enhance the purity of colour of her champagne. She also created the first blended rosè in order to create a more intense colour and taste.

The highlight of the event – the highest goaled Veuve Clicquot Masters Polo match yet to take place at Val de Vie Estate – was the main match between team Veuve Clicquot and team Maserati. Fast-paced action and extreme skill resulted in a final score of 7 vs. 5 and a half with team Veuve Clicquot reigning supreme. The most valued player of the day was awarded to Ben Crowe and the best playing pony awarded to Argo, owned by Dirk van Reenen.

Nomzamo Mbatha, South African actress and Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, returned as host for the third time, joined this year by Mark Bayly, well-known South African presenter.

The VIP guest list saw the likes of international and Pan-African celebrities, dignitaries and influencers. Charismatic television and film actor, executive producer and philanthropist Terrence ‘J’ Jenkins arrived from Los Angeles to spend the weekend in Cape Town to attend the Veuve Clicquot Polo Masters, along with local celebrities like Jessica Nkosi, Ayanda Thabethe and Thabiso Makhubela to name a few, and who were joined by more than 2500 prestigious guests from across the continent, who all came to pay homage to the high-speed, high-skill game of polo.

Maserati, the iconic brand representing exclusive, made-in-Italy performance, design and craftsmanship joined as Official Vehicle Partner for the 2019 event, showcasing a collection of the finest Maserati vehicles on display at the event, including the Levante, the elegant Quattroporte, the bold and luxurious Ghibli as well as the iconic GranTurismo and GranCabrio models. Guests had the opportunity to get up close and personal during divot stomping with both the heroes of the day – the polo ponies – and the masterpieces from the Maserati stable.

South African Tourism was also proud to partner with the Veuve Clicquot Masters Polo 2019 in celebrating South Africa is a premium destination for local and global travelers alike, especially through high-profile events like these.

Other Event Brand Partners included Ferrero Rocher, a chocolate brand that was created from a long family tradition and expertise in crafting chocolate and quality confections; and La Martina, the event’s Official Fashion Partner, lives and breathes polo, and entertained guests with a polo-inspired fashion showcase.

Since the beginning of time, man has been fascinated by the measurement of time, and timekeeping is key to any polo match. Luxury swiss watch brand Jaeger-LeCoultre was once again The Official Time Keeper for the 2019 Veuve Clicquot Masters Polo.

As official Television Media Partner, SABC 3 prides itself in reflecting a successful and stylish nation, with viewers who have their hearts firmly rooted in South Africa. SABC 3’s lifestyle shows Top Billing, Expresso and Afternoon Express were there to capture all the action of the day, while SAFM, South Africa’s only national news and talk radio station was the official Radio Media Partner for the event.

Situated right at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, The Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront was ideally located to host the event’s special guests for the weekend due to its close proximity to all of Cape Town’s main tourist attractions, and within walking distance of the famous V&A Waterfront.

Coco-Mat uses Mother Nature’s wisdom as a guide and source of inspiration to their hand-crafted bedding and homeware. Their wooden bikes are unique, because they are handmade in every detail. Each piece of wood used for the construction of the bikes is grown in nature and lovingly shaped to give it life.

Clark & Sons kept guests hydrated on the day, with their range of 12 classic mixers that is a tribute to family ties, the freedom of flight and the defiance of odds; while Bril, the cleverly named, owner operated eyewear boutique, supplied the stylish prizes for the winning players. A big thank you goes to Huge Networks which provided guests with access to complimentary high-speed WiFi so they could keep up with all things #vcmasterspolo on social media.

As the sun set behind the Simonsberg Mountains, DJ Zinhle, Africa’s favourite female DJ, delighted the crowd with her repertoire as guests raised their glasses to an unforgettable Veuve Clicquot Masters Polo in the Cape Winelands.
